Wyatt's Newly Finished Super Hero Quilt!

Here is a couple of pix of the new super hero quilt that I made for MY little Superman, Wyatt. A wonderful friend gave me a bundle of Batman and Spiderman fabrics, and this is what I did with them. Wyatt absolutely adores any character that "fights bad guys", so these fabrics were right up his alley.

If you're at all familiar with quilting, then you've heard of the Yellow Brick Road pattern. It's a beginner pattern that I've used several times for different quilts over the years. This is a variation of that pattern. I was a bit hasty when cutting out the pieces and strips, so I had to make a few "design decisions" and alter the pattern a bit. This is what I came up with. LOL After all, my little recipient didn't mind a bit! :)

I used a plastic template and a pounce for the quilting pattern to make these stars/swirls all over. I also got to use my new Juki quilting machine, and I'm in love with all the bells and whistles! I got some much needed machine quilting practice, as well, and towards the end of the quilt, I started to feel much more comfortable with it. I'm looking forward to quilting my next quilt! All I need to do is find my acrylic rulers and batting to get started! LOL They're in a box in our storage room somewhere.
I was hoping that the quilting would show up better in this pic, but I'm sure if you click to enlarge, and if you so choose, you can get a better look.
And now I'm off! Thanks to Blogger, I just rewrote this post 3x, and I've got a roaring headache!
Till later!
xox,
Kirsten

  2. Awesome. I am sure Wyatt will be cuddling with this for years to come. Quilting is something that I would like to get into, but I can't justify adding one more hobby right now. ;)

  4. this is fantastic! I just happened to be doing my blurfing on the couch and my 3 year old suddenly exclaimed! Spiderman and Batman! Did you make that for ME?! I laughed and told him that no, mama doesnt know how to quilt, that someone else made that for her little boy. Then he needed to know his name. does he like spiderman? How old is he? Can he come over to play? hahahhaa.

  5. I love it! As an avid quilter who hasn't in SOME time, I now want to get back to it. I think I have more scraps than stamps - if that is possible. And with three new grandkids - I can see the possibilities. Very cute and I know he will love it too!

  6. Beautiful!! Glad you're getting used to machine quilting. I've never tried a Yellow Brick Road but have heard lots about it. I did a bunch of flying geese for a class I took a few weeks ago. Much easier on the new machine!!
